چکیده
| Quality and process control activities in a mechanical product's life cycle require that components be measured, or dimensionally inspected. Computer-controlled dimensional inspection is typically performed with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), which are very precise Cartesian robots that use touch probes to measure the coordinates of points on a workpiece's surfaces. Automatic planning and programming of inspection tasks with a CMM involve spatial reasoning, to determine how to orient the part on the CMM, which probes to use, how to orient the probes, an so on. This paper introduces the notions of accessibility and approachability, which are important for inspection planning, and describes two sets of implemented algorithms for computing accessibility information. One of these sets of algorithms performs exact computations on polyhedral objects and is relatively slow, whereas the other uses discrete approximations and achieves high speed by exploiting standard computer graphics hardware. The discretized algorithm has been tested on real-world parts, and is suuciently fast for industrial applications.

متن کاملAccessibility Analysis Using Computer Graphics Hardware
Analyzing the accessibility of an object's surface to probes or tools is important for many planning and programming tasks that involve spatial reasoning and arise in robotics and automation. This paper presents novel and eecient algorithms for computing accessible directions for tactile probes used in 3-D digitization with Coordinate Measuring Machines. The algorithms are executed in standard ...
متن کاملTO APPEAR IN IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION 1 Motion Planning and Control for Hilare Pulling aTrailerF
| This paper deals with motion planning and control for mobile robots. The various components of an integrated architecture for the mobile robot Hilare pulling a trailer are presented. The nonholonomic path planner is based on an original steering method accounting for the small-time controllability of the system. Then the path is transformed into a trajectory by including the dynamical constra...
متن کاملVisual servoing via navigation functions
This technical report presents a framework for visual servoing that guarantees convergence to a visible goal from most initially visible configurations while maintaining full view of all the feature points along the way. The method applies to first and second order fully actuated plant models. The solution entails three components: a model for the “occlusion-free” workspace; a change of coordin...
متن کاملPath planning for planar articulated robots using configuration spaces and compliant motion
This paper presents a path planning algorithm for an articulated planar robot with a static obstacle. The algorithm selects a robot part, finds a path to its goal configuration by systematic configuration space search, drags the entire robot along the path using compliant motion, and repeats the cycle until every robot part reaches its goal. The planner is tested on 11,000 random problems, whic...
